Steve Canfield

Steve Canfield is a composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based in Florida, and the founder of Song Cage. Guitar is his primary instrument. He studied Music Technology at San Diego City College and works across film, games, and his own records.

His scoring and sound credits include the video game CRETE (Mayhem Mirror Studios) and independent films such as Huyendo, Spill Milk and Cry, and Just Another Tuesday. He also releases electronic music as Otherr, with eight EPs and two albums to his name, and co-owns the label Liquid Geometry.

He built Song Cage to solve his own problem as a writer: capturing chords, lyrics, and melodies in one place before the idea slips away. He writes these guides and app reviews from a working musician’s perspective, and his writing on AI and songwriting has appeared in the music industry trade publication Hypebot.
