Terms of Service

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Song Cage, a web-based songwriting application available at app.songcage.com. Song Cage is operated by Digital Candy LLC.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use Song Cage.

Accounts

To use Song Cage, you must create an account. You can sign up using an email address and password, or authenticate through Google OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. You must be at least 13 years of age to use Song Cage. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the Service.

Subscription Tiers

Song Cage offers three subscription tiers. Every new signup automatically receives a 14-day Pro trial: no credit card required.

The Band tier was withdrawn from sale on 31 July 2026 and its features were merged into Pro. It cannot be purchased. Subscriptions created before that date continue on their original price and terms until cancelled.

Payment & Billing

Payments are securely processed by Stripe or, if you choose it at checkout, by PayPal. We never see or store your card details either way. Paid subscriptions are handled by Stripe only: they automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) unless cancelled, and you can manage or cancel a subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal, accessible from your account settings. PayPal is available for the one-time Desktop + Plugin licence, which does not renew and has nothing to cancel.

Prices are listed in US Dollars. Applicable taxes may be added at checkout based on your location.

Cancellation & Refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period: you will continue to have access to paid features until then. We do not offer partial refunds for unused time within a billing period.

If your subscription is cancelled or expires, your account will revert to the Free tier. Your songs will remain in your account, but you will be limited to the features available on the Free plan.

Your Content

You own your content. Songs, lyrics, chord progressions, audio recordings, and any other content you create using Song Cage remain entirely yours. Digital Candy LLC claims no ownership, intellectual property rights, or license to your user-created content beyond what is necessary to operate the Service (such as storing and displaying your content to you and any collaborators you invite).

You may export or delete your content at any time. If you delete your account, your content will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Song Cage to:

• Upload, store, or share content that is illegal, infringing, or violates the rights of others
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without permission
• Use the Service for any purpose that violates applicable law

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without prior notice.

Song Cage Desktop License

The Song Cage desktop app (macOS and Windows) is licensed, not sold. Purchasing a license grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the desktop app under the following terms:

• Use on your own machines. One purchased license covers installations on all desktop computers you personally use. Sharing the license file or installer with other users is not permitted.
• Not included with a subscription. As of 31 July 2026 the desktop entitlement is granted solely by the one-time Song Cage Desktop + Plugin purchase. A Pro subscription does not include it. Subscribers whose desktop entitlement was granted under the previous terms keep it; it is not revoked by this change.
• Trial. The desktop app includes a 14-day calendar trial from first launch. When the trial ends without a valid license, the app is locked behind an upgrade overlay until a license is activated.
• Offline operation. The desktop app is designed to work fully offline. Sign-in and cloud sync are optional features available to Pro subscribers. Songs created offline are stored locally on your machine and are not transmitted to our servers unless you sign in.
• No reverse engineering. You may not decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the desktop app, except to the limited extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
• No redistribution. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or share the desktop installer, the license file, or modified versions of the app.
• Songs you create are yours. The license covers the software only. Songs, chord progressions, lyrics, audio recordings, and MIDI you create using the desktop app remain entirely yours, just as with the web app (see "Your Content" above).
• Refunds. One-time desktop purchases are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. Contact support@songcage.com. A refund revokes access to the desktop app and the plugin; songs already written stay on your computer.
• Updates. The license includes all updates within the v1.x line, delivered through the in-app auto-updater. Major version upgrades (v2.0 and beyond) may require a separate purchase, announced in advance.

Song Cage Plugin License

The Song Cage plugin (AU / VST3 / Standalone, macOS and Windows) is licensed, not sold. Purchasing a license grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use the plugin under the following terms:

• Use on your own machines. One purchased license covers all DAW installations on your personal computers. Activate the plugin on as many machines as you personally use; sharing the license file with other users is not permitted.
• Not included with a subscription. As of 31 July 2026 the plugin entitlement is granted solely by the one-time Song Cage Desktop + Plugin purchase, which covers the desktop app and the plugin under a single license claim. A Pro subscription does not include it. Subscribers whose plugin entitlement was granted under the previous terms keep it; it is not revoked by this change.
• Trial. The plugin includes a 14-day trial from first launch. When the trial ends without a valid license, the plugin stops emitting MIDI until a license is activated.
• No reverse engineering. You may not decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer the plugin, except to the limited extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
• No redistribution. You may not redistribute, resell, sublicense, or share the plugin binary, the license file, or modified versions of the plugin.
• Songs you create are yours. The plugin license covers the software only. Songs, chord progressions, lyrics, and MIDI you create using the plugin remain entirely yours, just as with the web app (see "Your Content" above).
• Refunds. One-time plugin purchases are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. Contact support@songcage.com. A refund revokes access to the plugin and the desktop app; songs already written stay on your computer.
• Updates. The license includes all updates within the v1.x line. Major version upgrades (v2.0 and beyond) may require a separate purchase, announced in advance.

Service Availability

Song Cage is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We strive to maintain high availability, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users in advance of significant changes.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Digital Candy LLC and its officers, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of Song Cage.

Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations.

Modifications to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also notify you via email or through the Service.

Your continued use of Song Cage after any changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, you should discontinue use of the Service.

Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state in which Digital Candy LLC is registered, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
